The 11th edition of the Nigeria Transport Lecture is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos. Organized by Transport Day Media, this annual event serves as a pivotal platform for stakeholders across Nigeria’s transportation sector to convene, deliberate, and strategize on pressing issues affecting the industry.
This year’s theme, “Sustainable Transportation in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges,” underscores the nation’s urgent need to transition towards more environmentally friendly and efficient transportation systems. The conference aims to address the multifaceted challenges hindering sustainable mobility in Nigeria, including inadequate infrastructure, high adoption costs for clean technologies, and regulatory bottlenecks.
The event is expected to feature a diverse array of participants from both the public and private sectors, including policymakers, industry experts, and representatives from transportation agencies. Discussions will likely focus on innovative solutions such as the adoption of electric vehicles, expansion of public transit systems, and the implementation of policies that encourage sustainable practices within the transportation industry.
In recent years, Nigeria has initiated programs aimed at promoting sustainable transportation, such as the introduction of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles to reduce reliance on petrol and lower greenhouse gas emissions. However, the adoption of these initiatives has been met with challenges, including limited infrastructure and public awareness.
The first edition of the Nigeria Transport Lecture was held in 2013 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Thereafter, 10 other editions have been helld in Lagos and Abuja.
The 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture seeks to build upon these initiatives by fostering dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders, with the goal of developing actionable strategies to overcome existing barriers and advance sustainable transportation in Nigeria.
Some lead Paper presenters in past editions include MD, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA 1st Edition, 2013; DG, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, 5th edition, 2018; Former Federal Permanent Secretary, Dr. Anthonia Ekpa, 9th edition, 2022, and Corps Marshall FRSC, 10th edition, 2024, amongst others.
