NCDMB and Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited have launched a 12-month training programme for 60 Nigerians at Nigeria Machine Tools in Osogbo, covering engineering, machining, CAD, CAM and equipment maintenance.
The programme, delivered in partnership with Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools, aims to bridge critical skills gaps and strengthen Nigerian participation in the oil and gas value chain.
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, has launched a 12-month technical training programme for 60 young Nigerians to develop specialised engineering and industrial skills for the oil and gas sector.
The programme, hosted at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited in Osogbo, Osun State, is being implemented under the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC HCD) Training Programme for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited’s EPU Phase 2 Gas Development Project.
Designed to strengthen local technical capacity, the initiative will provide participants with practical and industry-relevant training in engineering, manufacturing, equipment maintenance and other specialised technical disciplines.
The programme brings together NCDMB, Renaissance Africa Energy, Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools in a collaborative effort to develop a skilled Nigerian workforce capable of supporting the country’s oil and gas industry and wider industrial development.
Training to Cover Engineering, Manufacturing and Digital Skills
The 12-month programme combines six months of intensive classroom instruction with six months of supervised on-the-job training in reputable companies.
Its curriculum covers engineering design, fitter machining, conventional machine tool operations, programming, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), electrical and mechanical maintenance, and document control.
Participants who successfully complete the programme are expected to receive internationally recognised certifications, equipping them with technical credentials and practical experience for employment and career development.
The 60 trainees comprise 33 graduates and 27 vocational trainees, reflecting the programme’s focus on developing technical competence across different educational and skills backgrounds.
NCDMB Reaffirms Commitment to Local Technical Capacity
Speaking at the official launch, NCDMB’s Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to addressing critical manpower shortages and strengthening indigenous capabilities in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
Bamidele, who was represented by Mr. Tare Bufazi, Assistant Manager, Human Capacity Development, described the initiative as a strategic intervention designed to prepare more Nigerians for meaningful participation across the oil and gas value chain.
He stressed that the programme went beyond the acquisition of certificates, emphasising the importance of practical competence, professional discipline and workplace experience.
According to him, human capacity development remains central to advancing Nigerian content, expanding employment opportunities and supporting the Federal Government’s industrialisation agenda.
Bamidele urged the trainees to demonstrate commitment throughout the programme and make effective use of the opportunity to develop the skills required for sustainable careers.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools Limited to the successful establishment of the initiative.
Renaissance Highlights Investment in Nigerian Talent
Representing Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Mr. Richard Oyiborhor, Interface and Integration Manager for the NLNG Supply Project, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to developing Nigerian talent and strengthening local technical capabilities.
Oyiborhor commended NCDMB for its leadership in promoting Nigerian content and described the partnership involving Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools as an important step towards building a stronger industrial workforce.
The initiative aligns with the broader objective of ensuring that Nigerians acquire the specialised skills needed to participate effectively in the oil and gas industry, including technical operations and engineering-related activities.
By supporting structured training and practical workplace exposure, the programme is expected to help bridge the gap between technical education and the competencies required by industry employers.
Seflam SGL Traces Initiative to 2024
Mrs. Bisola Agboluaje, Senior Manager, Business Interface at Seflam SGL, congratulated the participants and traced the programme’s origins to 2024, when NCDMB approved the training plans.
She described the initiative as a forward-looking investment in Nigeria’s technical talent pool, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration between industry stakeholders and capacity-building institutions.
The programme’s combination of classroom learning and supervised workplace experience is intended to help trainees translate technical knowledge into practical skills relevant to the demands of the workplace.
Nigeria Machine Tools Backs Industrial Skills Development
Welcoming the trainees, Ms. Obehi Ojeagha, Chief Operating Officer of Nigeria Machine Tools Limited, commended the collaboration and expressed confidence in the participants’ ability to benefit from the training.
Ojeagha highlighted the institution’s 46-year history of supporting Nigeria’s industrial development and underscored the importance of technical training in building a competent workforce.
She expressed the expectation that the trainees would emerge with the skills, discipline and practical experience needed to contribute meaningfully to the oil and gas sector and other areas of industrial activity.
The involvement of Nigeria Machine Tools provides a manufacturing and technical training environment for participants to develop competencies in machine operations, engineering processes and equipment-related disciplines.
Strengthening Nigerian Content Through Skills Development
The 12-month initiative underscores the role of targeted technical training in strengthening local content and expanding opportunities for Nigerians within the oil and gas industry.
For NCDMB and its industry partners, developing a skilled workforce is an important component of building indigenous capacity and ensuring that Nigerian professionals can undertake specialised technical responsibilities across the sector.
With 60 participants enrolled in the programme, the initiative combines technical instruction, practical experience and professional development to prepare trainees for future employment and industry participation.
The partnership between NCDMB, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools Limited also highlights the importance of cooperation among regulatory institutions, energy companies and technical training providers in advancing Nigeria’s industrial and human capital development objectives.
