In the heart of Nigeria’s ongoing struggles, a stark reality stands out: food insecurity. Despite Nigeria’s rich agricultural potential, millions of its citizens face hunger and malnutrition daily. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR must urgently prioritize food security and production to alleviate this suffering and ensure a stable and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
The Dire State of Food Security in Nigeria
Nigeria, often dubbed the “Giant of Africa,” is paradoxically grappling with significant food security challenges. The country is endowed with vast arable land, favorable climate, and a youthful population ready to engage in productive activities. However, a combination of poor agricultural policies, inadequate infrastructure, climate change, and conflicts in key farming regions has left Nigeria vulnerable to food shortages.
According to the World Food Programme, nearly 19.5 million Nigerians are at risk of severe food insecurity in 2023. This alarming statistic underscores the urgency of a robust response to avert a full-blown food crisis.
