A Front: Lagos APC Stakeholders Forum Throws Weight Behind Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid

Published:

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously and resoundingly expressed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, formally urging him to seek a second term in the 2027 general elections.

The historic decision was reached on Tuesday at the densely attended APC Stakeholders Forum 2025, held at the Eko Hotels and Suites on Victoria Island, where thousands of the party’s chieftains and members converged to chart a collective course for the future.

The gathering represented a veritable who’s who of Lagos politics, featuring Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his predecessors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the State Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and a broad spectrum of leaders from across the traditional, religious, and political spheres.

The motion to endorse President Tinubu was set in motion with regal authority by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, who declared, “We endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to go for the second time. So I move.”

The motion was swiftly seconded by Speaker Obasa, cementing the collective will of the party’s highest echelons.

In his pivotal remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu articulated the forum’s consensus, stating that the President, a former governor of Lagos himself, has fulfilled many of his campaign promises and deserves the party’s full backing for another term.

“I believe that this message will get to Aso Rock, it will get to the Villa and will get to all the nooks and crannies of this great country,” Sanwo-Olu proclaimed, signaling the start of a nationwide mobilization campaign.

The rationale for continuity was further elaborated by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who framed the endorsement as essential for building upon the national reforms driven by “renewed hope, productive governance, and economic recovery.”

He called on members to become ambassadors, mobilizing support at the grassroots level.

The forum also served as a platform to celebrate the achievements of the state government, with Dr. Hamzat detailing the remarkable transformation across all sectors under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, positioning Lagos as a “model of excellence and a beacon of good governance.”

Adding a strategic dimension, former Governor Babatunde Fashola, in a lecture titled ‘Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election,’ urged the party to energize its base and engage the youth to convert this internal unanimity into electoral victory, confidently asserting that the season of renewed hope would ultimately benefit the APC at the polls.
