The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced the passing of its member, David Gbemisola Adekunle, who died on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Adekunle, popularly known as “Honourable,” was a staff member of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and an active maritime journalist.
In an official statement, the President of AMJON, Vera Osokpo, expressed deep shock and devastation over the loss, describing Adekunle as a dedicated professional and committed member of the association. She called on colleagues, friends, and industry stakeholders to rally around the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The family released funeral arrangements as follows:
– Service of Songs: Monday, January 12, 2026, at 4:00 PM
Venue: No. 5, Lawal Close, Abule Taylor, U-Turn Bus Stop, Abule Egba, Lagos.
– Funeral Service: Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM
Venue: Lantoro Cemetery, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Until his death, Adekunle served diligently at Voice of Nigeria and contributed meaningfully to maritime reporting through AMJON.
He is survived by his wife and children.
The maritime and media communities have begun to pay tributes, remembering him for his professionalism, warmth, and impactful storytelling.
