The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for comments made at an opposition summit in Ibadan on April 25, 2026, accusing him of invoking the violent history of “Operation Wetie” in a manner capable of inciting unrest.
The National Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress APC Felix Morka in a press statement issued by him described his remarks as reckless and a potential danger to peace and national security, stressing that such statements are inappropriate for a sitting governor.
DASCENARIO reports that APC called on security and intelligence agencies to take the issue seriously and ensure the protection of lives and property. It also dismissed Makinde’s claim that Nigeria is sliding into a one-party state, arguing instead that opposition parties are grappling with internal crises, weak leadership, and disunity.
The ruling party criticized key opposition figures and platforms, saying they have failed to provide a clear alternative vision for the country and are resorting to alarmist narratives.
APC maintained that Nigeria’s democracy remains vibrant, with many active political parties, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as the 2027 elections approach.
