Australia Revokes Kanye West’s Visa Over Nazi-Glorifying Song “Heil Hitler”

The Australian government has officially canceled the visa of controversial American rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, following the release of his inflammatory song “Heil Hitler” which praises Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the decision on Wednesday, citing the artist’s promotion of hate speech as incompatible with Australian values.

The 48-year-old musician released the offensive track on May 8, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War II. Minister Burke stated that while West had previously visited Australia to see family—including his Australian wife, Bianca Censori—his latest actions crossed a red line.

“He’s made a lot of offensive comments. But my officials reassessed his visa after he released ‘Heil Hitler’ and determined he no longer meets our entry requirements,” Burke said in an interview with ABC. “We don’t need that kind of hatred in Australia.”

The minister clarified that West’s revoked visa was not for touring purposes but rather a lower-level travel permit. “The law is clear—promoting Nazism is unacceptable,” Burke emphasized. When questioned about the implications of banning a high-profile figure, he responded, “What’s not sustainable is importing bigotry. We have enough challenges without deliberately adding to them.”

While Australia upholds freedom of speech for its citizens, Burke stressed that the government reserves the right to deny entry to individuals who propagate extremism. Immigration officials will continue to assess visa applications on a case-by-case basis, ensuring national security and social cohesion remain priorities.
