In a significant gathering at Aafin Awujale, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba S.K. Adetona, GCON, has called on stakeholders to remain united in their pursuit of creating a new Ijebu State. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting focused on the state creation agenda, Oba Adetona emphasized the feasibility and necessity of carving Ijebu State from the Old Ijebu Province.
The monarch expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly for fostering an environment conducive to considering the state creation bill. He lauded the progress made so far, with the bill passing both the first and second readings, and urged continued commitment from all stakeholders involved.
Oba Adetona underscored the historical unity between the Ijebu and Remo people, acknowledging occasional political differences but stressing the importance of a unified approach to this common cause. He thanked notable figures who have championed the initiative, particularly Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State, for his significant financial and intellectual contributions to the project.
The Awujale highlighted research findings that confirm the economic and strategic viability of the proposed Ijebu State. He pointed to the region’s abundant human and material resources and commended Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for the establishment of an international airport in the area, which further enhances its infrastructural readiness.
