Christ Church Isasi (Anglican Communion) yesterday, February 28, 2026, took a historic step in commemorating its 30th anniversary with the foundation-laying ceremony for its Altar Extension Project, a landmark initiative designed to mark a new chapter in the life of the church.
The ceremony was graciously officiated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji. The bishop, accompanied by his amiable wife, was warmly received by the Vicar of Christ Church Isasi, Rev Canon Michael Fagbemi, alongside a jubilant congregation and church leadership.
The event, marked by reverence and celebratory splendour, drew a remarkable turnout of members and well-wishers. The atmosphere reflected gratitude for three decades of God’s faithfulness and anticipation for the future.
In his address, the Bishop drew from John 4:37–38, reminding the congregation of Christ’s words: “One sows and another reaps… I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labour.”
Expounding on the passage, the Bishop emphasized the continuity of kingdom work, that the present generation stands on the sacrifices, prayers, and labour of those who came before. He noted that just as previous faithful stewards laboured to establish and sustain the church, the current congregation bears the responsibility of building for generations yet unborn.
He urged members to see the Altar Extension Project not merely as a structural expansion, but as a spiritual investment, a tangible commitment to ensuring that others will continue to encounter the Gospel within strengthened walls of worship. In commemorating 30 years of God’s faithfulness, he encouraged everyone to contribute meaningfully toward the project’s completion as a legacy act of gratitude and forward-looking faith.
The foundation laying aligns prophetically with the 2026 Diocesan theme, “Who is on the Lord’s Side?”; a clarion call for renewed dedication, visible commitment, and active participation in advancing God’s work. The project stands as both a response to that call and a declaration that Christ Church Isasi chooses to stand firmly on the Lord’s side.
The congregation expressed profound appreciation to the Bishop and his wife for their fatherly presence, prayers, and blessing over the project. The church community also reaffirmed its collective resolve to see the Altar Extension Project completed as a fitting memorial of three decades of impact and as a gateway to greater ministry opportunities.
