The maritime landscape of Nigeria is set for a significant discourse as the Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) announces its 2025 Annual Workshop.
Scheduled for December 10, 2025, at the Rockview Hotel in Apapa, Lagos, the event will convene under the pivotal theme: “Empowering Host Communities through Strategic Partnerships.”
This gathering aims to bridge the critical gap between industry operations and the welfare of the communities that host them, fostering a new era of collaborative and sustainable development.
The workshop is designed as a high-level platform for knowledge exchange, bringing together royal fathers, lawmakers, industry experts, and community leaders.
The presence of Oba Oyekunle Amodu Tijani Oluwa, the Olu of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom, as the Royal Father of the day, underscores the cultural and communal significance of the dialogue. Guiding the intellectual thrust of the event, Hon. Dr. Kalejaiye A. Paul will deliver the keynote address, focusing on the transformative power of strategic alliances. He will be complemented by Dr. Eugene Nweke, the Guest Speaker, who will delve into actionable best practices for building fruitful, long-term collaborations between maritime stakeholders and their host communities.
The event boasts an impressive roster of political and institutional support, reflecting the multi-tiered approach required for meaningful change.
Special Chief Guests of Honour include Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, alongside other esteemed lawmakers and local government chairmen such as Hon. Sabur Oluwa, Hon. Lookmon Olumoh, and Hon. Olalekan Olu Akindipe.
Their participation highlights the essential role of legislative and governmental frameworks in facilitating empowerment initiatives. Other distinguished personalities, including Dr. Azeez Mustapha and Chief Amb.(Dr.) Afam Chukwuma, are also expected to contribute to the rich discussions.
This workshop promises to be more than a talk shop; it is positioned as a catalyst for actionable partnerships.
By facilitating networking and collaboration among media practitioners, industry operators, government agencies, and community representatives, CONMMEP 2025 aims to chart a concrete pathway toward enhancing local capacity, promoting inclusive growth, and ensuring that the benefits of Nigeria’s vibrant maritime sector are equitably shared with its foundational host communities.
