The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 40-year-old alleged cultist, Nasir Isiaka, in Owo, despite the ongoing curfew imposed to curb escalating violence in the area.
Nasir, who had been on the police’s wanted list, was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday in the LA Igbanasa area of Owo. This incident follows a series of cult-related clashes that recently prompted the Ondo State Government to declare a curfew in the town to restore law and order.
Providing details of the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs. Funmi Odunlami, stated:
“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir Isiaka, aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list. The police at A’ Division, Owo, received a distress call about a shooting incident at the LA Igbanasa area around 2 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the victim had been attacked by two masked men.”
Mrs. Odunlami further revealed that Nasir was linked to several criminal activities in the state, including his alleged involvement in the #EndSARS protest, where he reportedly attacked the Uso Police Division, stealing an AK-47 rifle and bulletproof vest. He was also accused of participating in the murder of one Adedeji Rafiu, also known as “PA.”
The deceased’s body has been deposited in the morgue, while police intensify efforts to track down the assailants.
This latest killing underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing cult-related violence in Owo, a situation that has heightened residents’ fears despite the curfew. Authorities continue to urge members of the community to cooperate with security agencies in ensuring peace and stability in the area.
