Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has approved a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for every civil servant in the state for the 2025 festive period.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki and confirmed in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
Governor Nwifuru stated that the bonus reflects his administration’s dedication to the welfare of workers, despite a notable drop in state revenue over the past year.
“This gesture is to appreciate our hardworking civil servants and ensure they celebrate the Christmas and New Year holidays with joy and comfort,” he said.
This bonus adds to the governor’s earlier efforts to improve workers’ livelihoods. In August 2025, he increased the state’s minimum wage by ₦20,000, raising the lowest-paid civil servant’s salary to ₦90,000 under his People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
This state-level adjustment surpasses the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024, which some states are yet to implement fully.
During the same address, Governor Nwifuru also addressed ongoing infrastructure projects, specifically dismissing rumors of delays in the construction of the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover. He assured the public that the project—described as one of the biggest flyovers in the country—is progressing steadily and will transform the state’s landscape and environment upon completion.
The bonus initiative has been widely welcomed as a timely and impactful demonstration of pro-worker governance, further strengthening the relationship between the state government and its employees during the festive season.
