The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Jabi, Abuja, has convicted Praise Humphrey Igbo, also known as Jessica Allen, for defrauding an American victim of $115,000 through an elaborate internet scam.
Justice H.L. Abba-Aliyu delivered the verdict on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, sentencing Humphrey to one year in prison for the crime.
The prosecution, led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), brought a one-count charge against the defendant. The charges included internet fraud and criminal impersonation, which the court found to be substantiated during the trial.
The EFCC commended the court’s decision, reiterating its commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting individuals from online scams.
