The freight and transport logistics sector is grappling with a significant leadership vacuum, which continues to hinder progress and innovation across the industry.
According to High Chief Dr. Basil Nwolisa, President of the Association of Nigeria Customs Brokers (ANCB) and the National Compliance Joint Task Force of Licensed Clearing Agents (NCJTFLCA), the persistent trend of blaming importers for systemic inefficiencies and corruption is misplaced.
“Importers are not part of policy formulation. Blaming them for flawed policies only exposes a lack of intellectual depth within some corners of the industry,” Dr. Nwolisa stated.
He emphasized that the path to reform lies not in finger-pointing, but in cultivating strong, informed leadership.
To bridge the leadership gap, the industry must invest in:
1. Mentorship programs
2. Collaboration and knowledge sharing
3. Leadership development and training
4. Innovation and strategic thinking
“These steps are essential to fostering a new generation of professionals who can navigate complexities, adapt to change, and stimulate growth,” he added.
In a move to catalyze this transformation, the National Compliance Joint Task Force, in collaboration with key industry stakeholders and partner organizations, is preparing to launch a series of strategic dialogues and capacity-building initiatives.
These initiatives, scheduled to begin in the coming weeks, aim to foster a workforce driven by integrity, purpose, and intellectual rigor.
