A chilling case of alleged ritualistic killing has emerged in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where police apprehended 45-year-old Taiwo Yemitan, a suspected ritualist, after he was found in possession of a fresh human head and dismembered body parts.
According to SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Yemitan was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, December 22, at his residence located behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta. The arrest, carried out at 1:40 a.m., followed a tip-off from vigilant local security outfits, including the Agbekoya and Vigilante operatives.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, identified as Darasimi, was known to Yemitan. The suspect confessed to luring the deceased to his home under false pretenses before taking her life. In his statement to the police, Yemitan implicated two accomplices—Kehinde Yemitan, presumed to be his relative, and another individual identified only as Kazeem.
“The suspect admitted that the gruesome act was perpetrated with the intent of selling the victim’s head and body parts for ritualistic purposes,” SP Odutola disclosed.
The dismembered remains of the victim have been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to apprehend the accomplices and identify the victim’s family.
SP Odutola assured the public of a thorough investigation, stating that Yemitan will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further interrogation and prosecution.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and called on residents to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies to prevent further atrocities.
