The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued a stern warning against any form of assault or violence directed at police officers, vowing that such actions will be met with a decisive and appropriate response. The declaration was made on Friday, January 3, during Egbetokun’s one-day official visit to the Enugu State Police Command Headquarters.
Firm Stance Against Assaults
In his address, the IGP emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force will no longer tolerate any assault, let alone the killing of its officers. “An assault on any police officer is an assault on the Inspector General of Police,” he stated emphatically. “We will not take kindly to such acts. In 2025, we are saying a capital ‘no’ to the killing or assault of our personnel.”
Egbetokun reaffirmed the police force’s resolve to protect its officers while pursuing its mandate of ensuring public safety. “This year, we approach our mission with renewed determination—to stamp out criminals and ensure they do not return to the communities we have secured,” he said.
Commitment to Modern Policing
The IGP assured the Enugu State Police Command of unwavering support, promising the provision of advanced resources and modern security gadgets to aid their operations. “I will ensure that the achievements you have recorded are preserved and that you attain even greater milestones,” Egbetokun said.
He further outlined his vision for the Nigeria Police in 2025, highlighting key priorities such as professionalism, ethical conduct, and continuous training. “We will equip our officers with modern policing tools to effectively discharge their duties,” he added.
Focus on Welfare
Egbetokun also emphasized the importance of officer welfare, stating that it is a top priority under his leadership. “No Inspector General of Police will neglect the welfare of the officers,” he declared, signaling his commitment to improving the well-being of personnel across the force.

In his closing remarks, the IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to creating a safer and more secure nation.
