JMG Hybrid Solar Projects Target ₦152m Annual Diesel Savings

Published:

JMG Limited says its hybrid solar installations for La Chaumiere Group and its Victoria Island branch could deliver more than ₦152 million in combined annual diesel savings, demonstrating how businesses can reduce energy costs while improving power reliability.

As Nigerian businesses continue to contend with rising energy costs, diesel dependence and unreliable electricity supply, JMG Limited is promoting hybrid solar power as a practical alternative for managing operating expenses and maintaining business continuity.

The company commissioned two hybrid solar projects in the third quarter of 2026: a 133.12kWp installation for La Chaumiere Group, a premium culinary and hospitality business, and a 66kWp system at JMG’s Victoria Island branch in Lagos.

According to JMG, the installations are projected to save approximately 85,000 litres of diesel annually and deliver combined annual fuel savings of about ₦152 million, while reducing carbon emissions by more than 113 tonnes.

The company says the projects demonstrate the potential of integrating solar generation, battery storage and intelligent energy management to meet business electricity needs while reducing dependence on diesel-powered generators.

JMG Installs 133.12kWp Hybrid Solar System for La Chaumiere Group

At La Chaumiere Group, JMG installed a hybrid power system comprising 133.12kWp of solar photovoltaic capacity, 160kW of hybrid inverter capacity and 163.84kWh of high-voltage lithium battery storage.

The system is projected to generate approximately 210.86MWh of clean electricity annually, supplying a substantial portion of the hospitality company’s energy requirements.

JMG estimates that the installation could reduce diesel consumption by approximately 57,000 litres every year, translating to more than ₦102 million in annual fuel savings.

The company also projects that the system will avoid more than 76 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

For a hospitality business where consistent electricity is important for food preparation, refrigeration, lighting and other essential operations, hybrid solar power can help reduce exposure to fuel costs and interruptions associated with conventional power sources.

The financial and environmental benefits will depend on actual energy demand, operating conditions, diesel prices and system performance over time.

JMG Victoria Island Branch Targets ₦50m Annual Savings

JMG is also deploying the technology within its own operations.

At its Victoria Island branch in Lagos, the company commissioned a 66kWp hybrid solar installation with 80kW of hybrid inverter capacity and 81.92kWh of lithium battery storage.

The system is expected to generate approximately 94.8MWh of electricity annually and meet about 80 per cent of the branch’s energy requirements.

JMG projects that the installation will reduce diesel consumption by around 28,000 litres annually, representing approximately ₦50 million in estimated fuel savings.

The company further estimates that the installation will prevent more than 37 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Beyond reducing its own energy expenditure, JMG says the Victoria Island facility will serve as a live demonstration centre where customers, consultants and project developers can observe the hybrid solar technology operating in a real business environment.

The facility is intended to help prospective customers better understand the system’s capabilities and assess how similar solutions could support their own energy requirements.

Hybrid Solar Offers Businesses an Alternative to Diesel Dependence

The two installations highlight the role hybrid energy systems can play in addressing Nigeria’s commercial power challenges.

Unlike solar installations that depend entirely on immediate sunshine, a hybrid system can combine solar panels, battery storage, inverters and other available power sources to support electricity demand at different times.

Battery storage allows excess solar electricity to be stored for later use, while intelligent energy management helps coordinate the available sources of power.

For businesses with significant daytime energy demand, the arrangement can reduce generator operating hours and fuel consumption. Battery capacity and system design also influence how much energy can be supplied when solar generation falls.

However, the degree of savings varies from one business to another. Energy consumption patterns, generator efficiency, equipment loads, battery sizing, maintenance and local fuel prices all affect the financial outcome.

JMG says its approach is to design installations around each customer’s operational requirements rather than relying on a uniform system size for every business.

JMG Uses Load Analysis and PVsyst Simulation

According to the company, both projects were designed using detailed load analysis and PVsyst simulation to determine the appropriate system capacities for their respective locations.

The installations use LONGi solar modules, Deye hybrid inverters and Deye high-voltage lithium battery storage.

The combination is designed to integrate solar electricity generation with energy storage and intelligent power management.

Load analysis helps establish how much electricity a facility consumes and when demand is highest, while solar simulation supports estimates of generation under the expected conditions at a particular site.

These assessments are important when designing systems intended to balance energy reliability, installation costs and long-term savings.

JMG Solar Division Highlights Commercial Value

Hussein Abbas, Head of Solar Division at JMG Limited, said the projects reflect the company’s focus on delivering renewable energy solutions that offer both operational reliability and commercial value.

“Businesses need power they can depend on, but they also need solutions that make financial sense. These projects demonstrate that reliability, cost savings and sustainability do not have to be competing priorities. With the right system, businesses can reduce their dependence on diesel, lower their energy costs and build a more sustainable power infrastructure. We are not only delivering these solutions to our customers; we are also putting them to work within our own operations,” Abbas said.

The statement reinforces JMG’s position that renewable energy investments should be assessed not only in terms of environmental benefits but also through their contribution to operating costs, business continuity and long-term energy planning.

Victoria Island Facility to Demonstrate Hybrid Solar Technology

JMG says its Victoria Island installation will provide a practical demonstration environment for prospective customers and industry professionals.

Customers, consultants and project developers will be able to observe the system in operation and gain a better understanding of how solar generation, battery storage and hybrid inverters work together.

The demonstration facility could also help businesses evaluate the suitability of hybrid solar technology for offices, hospitality facilities, commercial buildings and other operations with significant electricity requirements.

For organisations considering a transition from diesel-dependent power arrangements, an assessment of actual consumption, generator usage and operating schedules remains an important starting point.

JMG Promotes Turnkey Solar Solutions for Nigerian Businesses

JMG Limited says it provides turnkey solar and hybrid power solutions designed around the energy requirements of individual businesses.

The company’s latest projects underscore a wider shift in commercial energy planning, as organisations explore ways to improve power reliability, manage operating expenditure and reduce emissions.

While the projected savings from the La Chaumiere Group and Victoria Island installations will need to be assessed against actual operating data over time, the projects illustrate how properly designed hybrid systems can offer an alternative approach to meeting business energy needs.
