The Kano State Police Command has taken decisive action by dismissing Constabulary Officer Ado Abba following multiple complaints of unauthorized stop-and-search operations and extortion from the public. The announcement was made by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Wednesday, January 30, 2025.
SP Kiyawa revealed that the dismissal came after thorough investigations confirmed Officer Abba’s involvement in the reported misconduct. He emphasized the command’s commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism within its ranks.
“We received several complaints about his actions, and after investigations, his guilt was established,” Kiyawa stated. “He is officially dismissed and is no longer part of the Constabulary.”
Following the dismissal, Abba’s uniform was immediately confiscated to prevent any further unauthorized use.
The police command has urged the public to continue reporting any instances of misconduct by police officers. SP Kiyawa assured citizens that the command is dedicated to taking decisive action against any unlawful activities within its ranks.
“When you witness any unlawful activity, report it, and we will take decisive action,” he affirmed.
In his statement, SP Kiyawa also commended the dedication of other Constabulary members who continue to uphold peace and order across Kano State. He encouraged them to perform their duties with honesty and diligence, reinforcing the command’s commitment to public service.
This dismissal aligns with a broader trend within the Nigeria Police Force to address misconduct among its officers. In May 2024, the Force dismissed Inspector Adabo Mohammed for offenses including criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and corrupt practices. Inspector Mohammed, along with five others, was part of an armed robbery gang responsible for stealing N29.8 million from a victim in Gwagwalada, FCT, and kidnapping another individual for a ransom of N4.4 million.
Similarly, three other officers were demoted for extorting motorists in Abuja. These actions underscore the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline and its commitment to maintaining public trust.
