The Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Government, Prince AbdulKadir Aliyu Mahe, has been confirmed dead. He passed away at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
While the exact cause of his death remains undisclosed at the time of this report, the state government, led by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the loss of its senior official.
Prince AbdulKadir, a distinguished public servant, was sworn in as Chief of Staff on November 3, 2024. His appointment marked a return to a prominent role in the state administration, having previously served as Secretary to the State Government under Governor AbdulRazaq.
With a career spanning decades, Prince AbdulKadir held several influential positions in both state and federal institutions. He served as Permanent Secretary at the Government House, Ilorin, in 2003 and as Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly from 2004 to 2007. Before his foray into state administration, he was a senior official at the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Prince AbdulKadir hailed from a lineage of prestige and service. He was the son of the late 10th Emir of Ilorin, Mallam Aliyu Abdulkadir, and a cousin to Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari. Both shared deep ties to the Ilorin Emirate as royal princes.
