In a solemn and impactful ceremony on Tuesday, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State officially launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) emblem, emphasizing the importance of supporting the families of fallen soldiers and those incapacitated in the line of duty. The state government also announced a generous donation of N10 million to the Nigerian Legion, a body committed to the welfare of these families and other key mandates.
Governor AbdulRazaq praised the Nigerian Legion for its unwavering dedication to preserving the peace, unity, and progress of Nigeria and the international community.
“Let us remember the sacrifices of these gallant men and women who laid down their lives so that we may live in peace and harmony,” the Governor stated during the emblem launch and the Emblem Appeal Week Fund. “We, therefore, have a duty to show our appreciation by contributing generously towards the upkeep of their families. Our support will send the message that they did not die in vain, and it will also inspire our Armed Forces to serve with courage, knowing they will be remembered and honored even in death.”
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the well-being of the Legion and urged citizens, alongside local government authorities, to mobilize resources in support of the cause.
The event was attended by a distinguished audience, including members of the state cabinet, senior government officials, security commanders, and representatives of the Legion.
Commissioner for Social Development, Olaitan Abosede Buraimoh, underscored the significance of the event as a demonstration of love, care, and gratitude for the gallantry and selfless service of fallen heroes.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Kwara State, Retired Brigadier General Abdulkadir Anigiobi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Governor.
“It is a privilege and an honor to witness your support, as you are the first Executive Governor of the state to grace this event in person and make such a generous contribution,” he said, while urging the government to continue its support through various empowerment initiatives for Legion members.
The emblem launch serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s Armed Forces, while reinforcing the collective responsibility to honor their legacy through continued support and appreciation.
