In a bid to ensure seamless traffic flow in Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has clamped down on illegal garages and indiscriminate parking in the Obalende and Iyana-Oworonsoki areas of the state.
The operation, led by LASTMA’s Director of Operations, Peter Gbegemede, resulted in the sanctioning of 52 commercial vehicles.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, the drivers of these vehicles had been warned repeatedly before the enforcement operation commenced.
Giwa emphasized that the government has zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and any impediments to free traffic flow, and vowed that the operations will continue.
The Special Adviser expressed concern over the disruptive activities of commercial bus operators, which cause significant traffic issues for innocent motorists.
He urged motorists to take ownership of the roads and report any broken-down or abandoned trailers or trucks to LASTMA via their hotlines: 08100565860, 08129928490, 08129928515, and 08129928593.
This crackdown is part of the government’s efforts to ensure smooth traffic flow during the festive season and beyond.
With the sanctioning of 52 commercial vehicles, LASTMA is sending a strong message that illegal garages and indiscriminate parking will no longer be tolerated in Lagos.
