The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has pledged to deepen its enforcement of traffic laws and strengthen collaboration with the media and the public to enhance road safety across the state in 2026.
In a New Year statement, the agency emphasized that effective traffic governance in a megacity like Lagos requires a strategic convergence of efficient enforcement, public cooperation, and responsible media engagement.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, highlighted that the agency recorded significant reductions in traffic infractions and improved road safety during the festive season, attributing the success to coordinated efforts between traffic officers, law-abiding motorists, and supportive media coverage.
He stressed that enduring success is anchored on collective responsibility and shared ownership, urging continued public compliance with traffic regulations and constructive media partnership to foster safer road usage.
Bakare-Oki also reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and sustained stakeholder engagement.
He expressed confidence that the New Year would usher in a more impactful partnership with the media—rooted in mutual trust, constructive feedback, and a shared resolve to entrench orderly and efficient traffic movement across Lagos State.
