The Association of Movie Producers (AMP) on December 6, 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the Public Affairs section of the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos to explore potential collaboration and partnership opportunities.
Led by National President, Amb. Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson, the delegation included prominent industry figures such as Olorogun Zeb Ejiro, Mr. Tade Ogidan, Hon. Shan Walker George, Anthony Chukuma, Favour Benson, and Eniola Ojeriakhi Asuelime.
During the meeting, Amb. Dr. Ebigieson presented an overview of AMP’s 29-year legacy, highlighting its membership of over 10,000 professionals across 28 states. She expressed the association’s interest in collaborating with the consulate on initiatives such as the upcoming Nollywood Producers Summit in April 2025 and AMP’s 30th-anniversary celebration.
Amb. Dr. Ebigieson emphasized the importance of the partnership in fostering the growth of Nigeria’s film industry while facilitating cultural exchange. Mr. Tade Ogidan underscored the need for U.S. producers to engage with Nigerian film festivals, which could serve as a platform to identify and nurture raw talent for international projects.
The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Clemson Ayegbusi, Established Opinion Leaders Specialist, and Mr. Austin Emeanua, Established Opinion Leaders Exchange Coordinator. They provided insights into the consulate’s programs, including the Emerging Voices Program, which supports young creatives and university students, and initiatives aimed at engaging established professionals.
Amanda, representing Julie Mackay, Head of Public Affairs, outlined the consulate’s support for the creative sector. She highlighted initiatives like a cinematography training program conducted during the Zuma Film Festival and emphasized opportunities for AMP members to access grants and connect with U.S. companies. Amanda also detailed the consulate’s funding programs, available to filmmakers who present proposals aligning with its objectives, and shared information about upcoming educational and cultural exchange programs for select countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya.
Olorogun Zeb Ejiro expressed gratitude for the consulate’s efforts and called for closer collaboration with AMP to ensure that qualified members, such as participants in the Emerging Voices Program, are fully integrated. Drawing from his own experience of a BBC training program, he stressed the importance of providing opportunities to deserving talents within the association.
Hon. Shan Walker George, AMP’s National Vice President, appreciated the consulate’s commitment to the film industry. Amanda clarified that while the consulate does not directly produce films, it supports festivals that promote U.S.-Nigerian connections through training and other resources.
The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation. Mr. Tade Ogidan lauded the consulate’s contributions to Nigeria’s creative industry, reaffirming AMP’s enthusiasm for a fruitful partnership.
