Nigeria Customs Seizes ₦3.39bn Codeine Syrup Hidden In Containers At Apapa Port

Published:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has seized 3,398 cartons of codeine-containing syrup worth ₦3.398 billion concealed in imported goods at Apapa Port in Lagos.

Officials said the interception was carried out by the Apapa Area Command in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The seizure comes just days after the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, warned smugglers that the port would no longer serve as a gateway for illicit trade.

Customs said investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the shipment.

Authorities may also trace the import documentation and shipping routes to determine whether the cargo is linked to wider drug trafficking networks.

Officials say the latest interception reinforces the Customs Service’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling at the port.
