Nigerian-American rapper OG Maco, best known for his 2014 hit single “U Guessed It,” has died at the age of 32 following complications from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The artist, born Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., passed away weeks after being hospitalized for the injury. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement shared on social media.
“With heavy hearts, we share the devastating news of the passing of our beloved Ben, known to the world as OG Maco. His life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love. Through his music, passion, and unwavering spirit, he touched so many lives and left a lasting impact,” the statement read.
The family expressed gratitude to fans and supporters, adding, “While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived – one that will continue to inspire and uplift others. Maco’s influence, both as an artist and a person, will remain forever etched in our hearts.”
According to TMZ, OG Maco was hospitalized on December 12 after the incident. He spent two weeks in a coma before his condition worsened.
Over the years, Maco faced several health challenges, including a near-fatal car crash in 2016 that almost cost him his right eye and a battle with a flesh-eating bacterial infection in 2019. Despite these setbacks, his determination and talent earned him recognition in the music industry.
OG Maco rose to fame with “U Guessed It,” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 and gained further acclaim through its remix featuring 2 Chainz. He later signed with Atlanta-based label Quality Control, joining a roster that included artists like Quavo, Lil Baby, and formerly Offset and Takeoff.
The rapper’s untimely passing has left fans and the music community mourning the loss of a talented and resilient artist whose music and legacy will endure.
