The much-anticipated award dinner organized by Nigerian Maritime Journalists to recognize the exceptional leadership of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is set to take place on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
This historic event, the first of its kind in the Nigerian maritime industry, will be held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, at 6 PM.
The Nigerian Maritime Journalists, representing various media associations covering the maritime sector, unanimously selected CG Adeniyi as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024.”
Originally scheduled for January 16, 2025, the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
This recognition is a collective decision of maritime journalists across print, electronic, and online media, including leading associations such as:
Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN)
League of Maritime Editors (LOME)
Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON)
Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN)
Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP)
Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN)
Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN)
Additionally, independent maritime reporters have endorsed the decision.
According to the organizers, CG Adeniyi has demonstrated exceptional performance since assuming office, particularly in:
Unprecedented revenue generation
Effective anti-smuggling operations
Trade facilitation and national security measures
Enhanced staff welfare and inter-agency collaboration
Infrastructural upgrades and ICT advancements
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
Beyond his achievements, the Customs CG has been a strong supporter of the media, particularly maritime journalists.
“This honour is also to set an agenda for other government agencies and their appointees, emphasizing that the ever-vibrant and resilient maritime media are closely monitoring their activities,” the organizers stated.
The award dinner will attract distinguished guests, including representatives from sister agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, Customs brokers, and other key maritime stakeholders.
