LAGOS – The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has unveiled a robust lineup of activities for its highly anticipated 2025 Press Week, scheduled to run from Thursday, August 28, to Sunday, August 31, 2025. This landmark event, themed ‘Journalism and the Fight Against Misinformation in a Digital Age,’ is designed to be a multifaceted initiative combining advocacy, faith, health, and intellectual discourse to enhance the standards and ethics of journalism in Nigeria.
A statement jointly signed by the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Abraham Akpabio, and the Chairman of the 2025 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Joshua Uloko, outlines a packed schedule aimed at addressing critical national issues and fostering community among media professionals.
Day 1: A National Discourse on a Silent Epidemic
The Press Week will be formally inaugurated on Thursday, August 28, with a significant advocacy drive: a national discourse on the growing crisis of child abuse in Nigeria. This pivotal event, emphasizing the media’s role in breaking the cycle of abuse, will be hosted by the revered Founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Ejigbo, Lagos, His Eminence, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele. The discourse is set to commence at 10 am at the church auditorium, bringing together journalists, policymakers, and child rights advocates to chart a path forward.
Days 2-3: Prayer, Health, and Honoring Excellence
The activities continue on Friday, August 29, with a Muslim Jumuah Prayer at the Secretariat Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, at 2 pm, promoting unity and inclusivity among members.
Saturday, August 30, promises a day of immense value, kicking off with an insightful Health Talk facilitated by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), focusing on the well-being of media practitioners. The highlight of the day will be a keynote lecture addressing the core theme of combating misinformation, followed by the unveiling of the Correspondents’ Chapel Magazine and an award ceremony to honor excellence and contributions to the field.
This grand event will be held at the prestigious Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference and Exhibition Center, Alausa Ikeja, by 11 am. It will gather a diverse audience of media practitioners, policymakers, entrepreneurs, entertainers, humanitarian providers, clerics, and socio-cultural organizations. The occasion will be chaired by the esteemed Otunba Olarenwaju Kazeem Lawal (Lanre Success).
Day 4: A Thanksgiving Finale
The 2025 Press Week will be rounded off in a reflective and grateful spirit with a special Thanksgiving Church service on Sunday, August 31. The service will hold at the United Evangelical Church (Qua Iboe Church), Barracks Bus stop, Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos, by 9 am.
