In a recent engagement, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya-Abdullahi, emphasized the imperative for journalists to adhere strictly to professional ethics while executing their duties. This call was made during a courtesy visit by selected executive members of Crime Reporters Global, Nigeria, at the NUJ National Secretariat in Abuja.
Comrade Yahya-Abdullahi underscored the critical role of investigative journalism in a democratic society, highlighting that it demands resilience and meticulousness to ensure that the outcomes are truthful and unassailable. He stated, “Investigative journalism is a job that requires doggedness and perseverance such that whatever is coming out of the story after investigation is truth and nothing but the truth.”
The NUJ President also expressed a commitment to collaborate with pertinent associations to enhance the capacity of journalists, aiming to elevate the standards of the profession. He noted that the existing synergy between the NUJ and Crime Reporters Global would be strengthened during his tenure.
The delegation from Crime Reporters Global, led by Chairman Comrade Tita Onyebuchi Nze and Secretary General Comrade Barth Ikiebe, conveyed their congratulations to Comrade Yahya-Abdullahi on his election as NUJ President. They expressed their intention to support a dynamic and purpose-driven NUJ leadership moving forward.
