The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two individuals, Monday Ogunniyi and Oladeyo Idowu, on suspicion of ritual activities in Oja Odan, Yewa North Local Government Area. The arrests followed a chilling report of abduction and subsequent police investigations that uncovered a decomposed human skeleton dressed in female clothing.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, revealed that the arrests were prompted by a complaint lodged by one of the suspects, Oladeyo Idowu. Idowu, who resides in the School 4 area of Oja Odan, reported to the police that his associate, Monday Ogunniyi, had abducted a woman named Regina Oladeyo.
Police officers swiftly acted on the report, tracing Regina to Ogunniyi’s residence in the Okegbala area of Oja Odan. However, what initially appeared to be a straightforward case of abduction took a sinister turn during questioning.
Ogunniyi confessed to abducting Regina but implicated Idowu, alleging that both were involved in ritual practices requiring human remains. According to Ogunniyi, the duo had an arrangement to obtain body parts from a decomposing corpse to perform rituals.
Acting on Ogunniyi’s confession, detectives were dispatched to a location near a river in the Afige area of Oja Odan. There, they made a gruesome discovery: a dried human skeleton draped in female clothing. Evidence collected at the scene, including photographs and other exhibits, supported Ogunniyi’s claims and implicated Idowu in the macabre activities.
SP Odutola recounted the chilling details:
“During questioning, Monday Ogunniyi admitted to abducting Regina Oladeyo but revealed that he and the complainant, Oladeyo Idowu, were involved in rituals requiring human remains. Investigations led detectives to a site near a river in the Afige area, where a human skeleton dressed in female clothing was discovered. Evidence recovered corroborated the suspect’s confession.”
The police also noted that the suspects had been involved in the storage and dismemberment of the corpse for ritual purposes.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Eleweran for further investigation. The police have vowed to pursue justice and ensure that all individuals connected to the crime are held accountable.
