Several officers of the Ogun State Police Command have been detained for allegedly demanding money from the family of a missing girl before initiating an investigation into her disappearance.
The incident was confirmed by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force, in a statement on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
Officers Face Disciplinary Action
Adejobi stated that the implicated officers have been taken into custody and will face disciplinary measures.
“The policemen who demanded money before they could attend to the case have been arrested and are now in detention for disciplinary action,” he disclosed.
He further assured the public that the Ogun State Police Command is actively working on the case, emphasizing their commitment to locating the missing girl.
“The girl will be found as soon as possible. We also urge the victim’s family to cooperate with the police,” Adejobi added.
Public Warning Against Misconduct
In a related announcement, Adejobi cautioned officers against exploiting the name of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for fraudulent purposes. He called on the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of such misconduct.
