The Oyo State Government has raised an alarm over potential cholera cases in the state, urging residents to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, visited a private hospital in Ibadan where two suspected cholera cases were being treated.
She explained that cholera is a highly infectious bacterial infection spread through contaminated food or water and can cause severe diarrhea, dehydration, and fever.
The two suspected cases, male workers at a construction site in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State, were tracked to a private facility in Oyo State.
While reassuring that the situation is under control, Dr. Ajetunmobi enumerated the response efforts of the state government, including deploying personnel, promoting awareness through media campaigns, activating isolation centers, and intensifying surveillance activities.
The Commissioner appealed to residents to drink water from clean sources, practice good hygiene, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur. She warned against self-medication and encouraged community leaders to support awareness and sensitization efforts.
The state government is working to prevent casualties from the cholera outbreak in Lagos State, and residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
