The Plateau State Police Command has announced a series of restrictions aimed at bolstering security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The measures, effective from December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025, were disclosed in a statement by the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, and signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred.
Targeted Restrictions for Key Areas
The restrictions, which include a ban on night grazing, late-night farming, and certain other activities, will primarily affect the local government areas of Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu. These zones have been identified as critical for maintaining peace during the festive period.
Key measures include:
- Night Grazing and Farming: Prohibited between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. to prevent potential security breaches.
- Commercial Motorcycles (Okada): A continued total ban on their operations.
- Commercial Tricycles (Keke NAPEP): Restricted within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis on December 25, December 26, and January 1, 2025.
- Late-Night Operations: Beer parlours, night mining activities, and other nocturnal operations are also banned.

The measures follow a strategic security meeting held by Commissioner Adesina with local government council chairmen. This engagement underscored the collective effort to ensure a peaceful festive season.
Security Deployment
To enforce these restrictions, the command has deployed personnel to major flashpoints across the state in collaboration with the military, other security agencies, and local security groups.

Commissioner Adesina urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement for the greater good.
“The command regrets any inconveniences that these restrictions may cause. These measures are not intended to intimidate or inconvenience but to ensure the peace and security of all Plateau residents,” the statement emphasized.
