Authorities in Ogun State have initiated a full-scale investigation following the tragic killing of 54-year-old Prophet Yomi Adetula, a leader of the Celestial Church of Christ (Eagle Parish). The incident occurred during an active church service on the morning of January 19, when unidentified gunmen stormed the premises, opening fire and escaping before they could be apprehended.
According to a report filed with the Idiroko Police Division, the attack took place at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the church, located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko. Responding officers arrived at the scene to find Prophet Adetula lying on his back in a pool of blood, his white celestial garment soaked and marked by bullet wounds. Disturbingly, the attackers had also inflicted severe head injuries with an axe to ensure the victim’s death.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that three armed men entered the church during the service, wielding a long double-barreled gun. Chaos erupted as the assailants targeted and fired at the prophet before fleeing the scene.
The remains of Prophet Adetula have been transferred to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro as law enforcement intensifies efforts to track down the perpetrators. The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the culprits to justice.
This shocking attack has sent waves of fear and grief through the community, leaving residents and church members grappling with the tragic loss of their spiritual leader.
