The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has reported an impressive revenue collection of N288,392,717,427 from January to November 6, 2024. This figure marks a significant 34.8% increase compared to the N213,914,304,888.11 collected in the same period last year.
Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniyan, the Customs Area Controller, credited this remarkable financial performance to the dedication of officers, compliance from port users, and strong collaboration with other government agencies.
Notably, October 2024 became a record-breaking month, with the command collecting N44,021,583,356—the highest monthly revenue in the command’s history.
While announcing the October achievement, Comptroller Daniyan expressed confidence in his team’s ability to sustain this success. “We must rededicate ourselves to serving our country diligently, firstly as patriotic citizens and as customs officers with mandates to work for the development of our national economy,” Daniyan said.
He emphasized the critical role of advanced trade facilitation tools, such as the newly launched B’Odogwu platform, which is currently being piloted within the PTML Command to streamline processes.
Seizures Worth N28.4 Million in Anti-Smuggling Operations
Alongside its revenue collection achievements, PTML Command has bolstered its anti-smuggling operations, seizing goods valued at N28,478,034.76 (Duty Paid Value) during the same period. The seized items included a variety of contraband goods, from used vehicles loaded with prohibited items to containers filled with rice and cooking oil.
Among the confiscated items were:
2,598 pieces of used motor tires
12 used washing machines
6 used refrigerators
36 used rim covers
8 used carpets, and other items like mattresses, wash basins, and second-hand clothing.
Additionally, PTML Command uncovered concealed firearms and ammunition in several used vehicles. These include:
One SIGSAUER 1911 pistol (serial No: UO3130962526) from a used Toyota Sienna
A Glock 22 pistol with serial No: KNT003 from a Toyota Tacoma, along with 13 rounds of 9mm hollow ammunition
Fifty-one rounds of Winchester 12GA cartridges found in a Lexus RX350.
Enhancing Efficiency and Trade Facilitation
Looking ahead to the holiday season and the close of 2024, Comptroller Daniyan stressed the importance of continued efficiency, especially in clearing compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) consignments within a two-hour timeframe.
“As we work into the yuletide period, seeing to the end of 2024, let us continue sustaining two hours cargo clearance for compliant RoRo consignments, collect maximum revenue without compromising on diligent examination to detect concealment, under-valuation, and false declaration,” he stated.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, psc(+), expressed his confidence in the command’s capabilities and their commitment to maximizing revenue generation.
With the implementation of the B’Odogwu platform, PTML Command aims to enhance transparency and accountability in customs processes, setting a benchmark for other commands.
