The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced a revenue collection of N239,233,530,265.48 for the period of January to September 2024. This represents a 29% increase over the N185,785,030,025.47 collected during the same period in 2023.
Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniyan, Controller of the command, disclosed this information during a third-quarter press briefing. He highlighted the command’s anti-smuggling efforts, revealing seizures worth N28,478,034.76.
“We have zero tolerance for items that contravene extant regulations,” Comptroller Daniyan emphasized.
“The showcasing of these live rounds of ammunition informs all PTML users of our officers’ readiness to seize such items without compromise.”
Notable seizures include:
– 2 pistols
– 260 ammunition
– Empty shells and cartridges of various types
– Used motor tyres
– Foreign parboiled rice and vegetable oil
– Arms and ammunition concealed in imported vehicles
The command handed over a 40ft container containing seized items to the Nigeria Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
Three suspects were detained in connection with the seizures and granted administrative bail.
Comptroller Daniyan attributed the command’s success to its trade facilitation strategies, including a record-breaking two-hour clearance time for compliant Roll-on-Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes.
He encouraged compliant traders to utilize products like Time Release Study (TRS), Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) program, and Advance Ruling (AR) to facilitate trade.
“Our capacity to handle more RoRo cargoes is supported by the command’s track record of efficiency,” Comptroller Daniyan stated.
