Stop Using Tinubu As A Scapegoat, APC Chieftain Tells Opposition Parties Amid Growing Criticism

Published:

A senior figure within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at opposition parties over what he described as their habitual blame of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their internal struggles and declining relevance. The chieftain, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, called on political rivals to take responsibility for their own failings instead of scapegoating the presidency.

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has urged opposition parties to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for the defection of their members into the ruling party, stated that the wave of defections, infighting, and leadership crises plaguing some opposition parties is a result of their lack of internal democracy, weak organizational structures, and failure to connect with grassroots voters.

“It is intellectually lazy and politically dishonest for opposition leaders to blame Tinubu for their internal disarray,” the APC official said. “The real problem lies within their own houses. They lack cohesion, vision, and credible alternatives for the Nigerian people.”

The remarks appear to be a response to a flurry of statements from key opposition parties—including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)—who have increasingly accused the Tinubu administration of poor economic management, political intimidation, and weakening democratic institutions.

However, the APC chieftain insisted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria is gradually stabilizing after inheriting significant challenges from previous administrations. He credited Tinubu with taking bold steps in economic reform, foreign investment attraction, and infrastructural renewal, despite short-term public discontent.

“It’s ironic that parties who failed to deliver when they had the chance now criticize the tough but necessary decisions Tinubu is making,” he added. “True leadership is about sacrifice, and that’s what this administration represents.”

He also accused some opposition figures of resorting to populist rhetoric and misinformation to sway public opinion, warning that such tactics could damage national unity and democratic progress.

The statement comes as political maneuverings intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various parties positioning themselves for relevance amid mounting public scrutiny.

Observers note that the APC’s messaging strategy appears increasingly focused on drawing contrasts between Tinubu’s governance style and what the ruling party sees as the disorganization and opportunism of its opponents.
