A headmaster in Zimbabwe, Nisbert Zaba Makhuyana of Samhutsa Secondary School in Chipinge, has come under intense scrutiny following the online circulation of a video allegedly showing him in an intimate act with a student. Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Richard Gabaza, confirmed the ministry’s investigation to Manica Post, stating that inquiries are underway. However, the process has been delayed due to Makhuyana’s unavailability, as he is reportedly engaged in marking Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) exams during the school holiday period.
“Investigations are underway, though stalled by the unavailability of Makhuyana at the moment,” Gabaza said. He explained that Makhuyana is currently participating in examination marking activities, which have temporarily hindered the inquiry.
The leaked video has led to Makhuyana’s arrest, but his prosecution was not pursued after the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court received an affidavit from the student involved, who is reportedly over 18 years old. The affidavit asserted that the relationship was consensual, thereby complicating the case from a legal standpoint.
