Renowned social critic and activist, Very Dark Man (VDM), has provided an update on the ₦180 million allegedly stolen from his NGO’s account by suspected hackers.
In a video shared on social media this evening, VDM announced that ₦78 million of the stolen funds had been successfully recovered. The breakthrough followed the arrest of a suspect in Jos, who reportedly confessed during interrogation. According to VDM, the suspect disclosed that an accomplice involved in the cybercrime had fled to Ghana.
Further analysis of the cyber breach revealed that the NGO’s website has faced significant threats originating predominantly from the United States.
VDM assured supporters and stakeholders that efforts to recover the remaining funds and apprehend all involved are ongoing, with authorities in both Nigeria and Ghana working collaboratively.
“We are making progress, but there’s still work to be done. I’m committed to ensuring full accountability and justice in this matter,” VDM stated.
The incident has sparked conversations around cybersecurity vulnerabilities faced by NGOs and the need for robust protective measures in the digital space.
