Published:

In a decisive operation, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued Mrs. Folashade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, from her abductors. The operation, led by Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, resulted in the neutralization of the kidnappers and the recovery of the ransom paid.

On January 16, 2025, at approximately 9:45 PM, four masked gunmen abducted Mrs. Odumosu from her Lexus SUV outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State. The assailants forcibly took her through a swampy area to an undisclosed location.

Following the abduction, the anti-kidnapping unit of the Ogun State Police Command, with support from the Force Headquarters’ technical intelligence platforms, initiated a thorough investigation. Their efforts led them to a creek in the swampy area of Ikorodu, where the kidnappers were reportedly planning their next attack. Upon arrival on January 23, 2025, at around 6:45 AM, the operatives encountered the kidnappers, who opened fire. In the ensuing confrontation, two of the gunmen were neutralized, while four others fled the scene, abandoning their operational weapons.

The police recovered four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, ammunition of various calibers, and the sum of N10,000,000, which was previously demanded by the kidnappers as ransom. Mrs. Odumosu was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with her family after undergoing a medical evaluation. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his operatives for their gallantry in the successful operation. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes, ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
