In a press conference held on January 22, 2025, at the Rotary Centre in GRA Ikeja, Rotary District 9111 unveiled its plans for the 2025 Awareness Day celebration, urging all members to actively participate in the scheduled activities.

Past President and Chairman of the 2025 Rotary Information and Awareness Committee for District 9111, Mr. Henry Akinbobola, emphasized Rotary International’s enduring relevance as a beacon of hope and humanity in an ever-changing world. He highlighted Rotary’s mission to unite business and professional leaders in providing humanitarian services, promoting ethical standards across all vocations, and steadfastly advancing goodwill and peace globally.

Mr. Akinbobola elaborated on Rotary’s transformative role, describing its clubs worldwide as powerful agents for lasting change within communities and individuals. He outlined Rotary’s commitment to seven key areas of focus:

Promoting Peace: Training leaders, including potential youth leaders, to prevent and mediate conflict, and supporting peace-building in communities and regions affected by conflict.

Fighting Disease: Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to disease prevention and treatment, and implementing projects to prevent and treat diseases.

Providing Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene: Supporting local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day, and sharing expertise with community leaders and educators to ensure long-term success.

Saving Mothers and Children: Reducing the mortality and morbidity rate for children under the age of five, and improving access to essential medical services for mothers and their children.

Supporting Education: Strengthening the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reducing gender disparity in education, and increasing adult literacy.

Growing Local Economies: Advancing local economies through sustainable development and supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to economic and community development.

Protecting the Environment: Supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, and fostering environmental sustainability.

Mr. Akinbobola called on all members to actively engage in the celebration, particularly by visiting the project exhibition stands where clubs will showcase impactful projects executed over the past six months. He stated, “These initiatives stand as a testament to the power of Rotary’s collective efforts and the profound impact we continue to make within our communities.”

The Awareness Day celebration promises to be a memorable event, highlighting Rotary’s unwavering commitment to service and the promotion of humanity’s highest ideals.
