The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied knowledge of any investigation into the alleged disappearance of N180 million from the account of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) run by social critic Martins Otse, widely known as “VeryDarkMan” (VDM).
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, December 28, FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh stated that the command has no record of the reported incident.
“The FCT Police Command is not aware of any case involving VDM’s missing funds and is not conducting any investigation into it. The individual in question should clarify where the matter was reported, as there is no record of such a case with the FCT Police Command,” Adeh explained.
VDM’s Allegations
The controversy began after VDM posted a video on Instagram on Friday, claiming that hackers had infiltrated the NGO’s website and siphoned N180 million, leaving only N20 million in the account.
“I’ve not been myself these past few days. Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing. Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left,” he disclosed in the video.
VDM also hinted that the suspect behind the breach had been apprehended but did not provide further details about the arrest or which law enforcement agency was involved.
Clarifications Needed
The lack of confirmation from the FCT Police Command raises questions about the jurisdiction or agency handling the case. Observers have called for clarity on the matter, urging VDM to disclose where the case was reported and the status of the investigation.
As the situation develops, it remains unclear whether other law enforcement bodies are involved in tracking the stolen funds or investigating the alleged cybercrime.
