The Plateau State Police Command has issued a firm denial regarding claims of their involvement in the investigation of the alleged hacking incident involving VeryDarkMan (VDM) and the diversion of N180 million from his NGO’s account.
Reacting to a video released by VDM on his social media platform on Friday, December 26, 2024, DSP Alabo Alfred, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, stated that the command has not received any formal report from VDM regarding the incident. Alfred clarified that the crime in question did not occur within the jurisdiction of the Plateau State Police.
“The matter has not been reported to us. We are not handling it because the crime did not occur within our jurisdiction,” Alfred explained. “If VDM claims that he is coming to Jos, it does not imply that we are the ones investigating the case.”
Alfred further emphasized that the alleged crime happened in Abuja, which falls under the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command. “If he reported the case at the Force CID level, it is the Force PRO who can speak on such matters. If the case was reported at the FCT Command level, then the FCT Police PRO would handle it,” he added.
Alfred stressed that Plateau State Police Command could not comment on matters that did not occur within their jurisdiction. “If VDM has reported the case at another police command, they can collaborate and conduct their investigations, but it is not within our purview to speak on such issues,” he said.
VDM, in his video, claimed that hackers had stolen N180 million from his NGO’s account and asserted that one of the suspects was arrested in Jos, Plateau State. He mentioned that he was on his way to Jos with one of the detectives handling the case.
The Plateau State Police Command has reiterated that any investigation related to this matter would need to be handled by the appropriate command, either at the Force CID level or by the FCT Police Command, where the crime reportedly occurred.
