In a tragic and startling turn of events, the Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 15-year-old bride, Zahra’u Dauda, for allegedly conspiring with her former lover to fatally poison her 29-year-old husband, Kamisu Haruna.
The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, occurred on December 22, 2024, at the couple’s residence in Albasu village, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State, just two days after their wedding.
According to police reports, the couple had celebrated their union on December 20, 2024, in Kiyawa Local Government Area. However, the marriage took a dark turn when Zahra’u allegedly teamed up with her ex-lover, 22-year-old Lawan Musa, to carry out the heinous act.
Poisoned Meal Turns Fatal
In a statement released on January 4, 2025, by the Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, it was revealed that Zahra’u served her husband and two of his friends a poisoned meal. Shortly after consuming the food, the three victims developed severe stomachaches.
“The victims were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, one of the groom’s friends was pronounced dead by the attending medical doctor,” DSP Shiisu said.
Details of the Conspiracy
Preliminary investigations indicate that Zahra’u conspired with Musa, both residents of neighboring villages in Kiyawa Local Government Area, to execute the poisoning.
“One Zahra’u Dauda, aged 15, of Bagata Gabas village, conspired with her ex-lover, Lawan Musa, aged 22, of Bagata Gabas Yamma village, to poison the food of her husband, Kamisu Haruna, aged 29, of Albasu village, Jahun LGA,” the statement read.
The motive behind the poisoning remains unclear, although speculations point to the girl’s prior relationship with Musa and potential reluctance about the marriage.
