Nigeria Customs Unveils Digital MIS File Tracker At PTML, Targets Faster Operations And Smarter Administration

Published:

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with the PTML Area Command serving as the pilot command for the rollout as part of efforts to strengthen digital administration and improve operational efficiency.

Speaking at the launch, Newsconnect reports that the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT/Modernisation, DCG Oluyomi Adebakin, described the initiative as another milestone in the Service’s modernization drive aimed at expanding the use of technology to enhance personnel administration, speed up documentation processes, and promote greater efficiency.

According to Adebakin, the MIS File Tracker aligns with the NCS vision of deploying digital solutions to improve transparency, operational effectiveness, and seamless trade facilitation.

She noted that the platform further reinforces the Service’s commitment to innovation and global best practices, following the successful implementation of digital projects such as the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System.

She explained that the MIS serves as an Enterprise Platform for Customs administrative processes, operating as a Single Sign-On (SSO) application that enables a unified data system across departments.

The platform supports essential administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls, and other personnel management processes. It also provides a feedback mechanism for continuous improvements and upgrades.

Adebakin said the deployment is expected to simplify internal workflows, reduce manual procedures, and promote data-driven decision-making across the Service. She added that the initiative would further strengthen PTML Command’s reputation as one of the most innovative commands within the NCS.

PTML Area Command has consistently served as the preferred testing ground for major Customs digital reforms, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, owing to its reputation as one of the Service’s most technologically advanced commands.

Acting Controller of PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence that the command would successfully implement the pilot programme and continue setting the pace for Customs innovation.

Miko said the command remains committed to maximizing all technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the Customs management.

He thanked the Comptroller-General for the confidence reposed in the command and disclosed that efforts are underway to reduce the cargo clearance time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes from the current two hours to just one hour.

Describing the MIS File Tracker as a bold step toward sustaining the Nigeria Customs Service’s position as one of Africa’s leading customs administrations, Miko assured stakeholders that the PTML Command would justify the confidence placed in it by ensuring the successful implementation of the system from the pilot phase through full deployment.
