Presidency Dismisses Opposition Coalition, Labels Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, And Amaechi As “Disgruntled Politicians”

The Nigerian Presidency has strongly criticized the recent political regrouping of opposition figures, dismissing it as an alliance of “disgruntled and frustrated politicians” who do not have the best interests of the Nigerian people at heart.

The reaction follows reports of a coalition of prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, and former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, allegedly forming a united front against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Monday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the coalition as nothing more than an assembly of embittered politicians whose primary agenda is to derail Tinubu’s administration rather than serve the interests of Nigerians.

“They are not politicians after the public good. It’s all about their self-interest. They are disgruntled. They are a frustrated lot. The leaders are sore losers. The coalition is an amalgam of Tinubu haters. Their agenda is to stop Tinubu.”

Onanuga further stated that President Tinubu remains undeterred by political distractions and is committed to delivering on his promises to the Nigerian people.

Defending the administration’s progress, Onanuga noted that Tinubu has recorded significant achievements just two months before the halfway mark of his first term, tackling several of Nigeria’s long-standing issues.

“President Tinubu remains focused on governance and is on track to building a more prosperous country. He cannot be distracted by the so-called coalition of politicians.”

The Presidency’s response comes amid growing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition figures exploring alliances to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the Presidency maintains that Tinubu remains unshaken by political conspiracies and is dedicated to fulfilling his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The emergence of this opposition coalition signals an intensifying political battle in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential elections. While the group has yet to make any formal announcements regarding its strategy, speculations suggest that the opposition figures may seek to form a stronger alliance to unseat Tinubu and the APC.

As political tensions rise, Nigerians will be closely watching whether this coalition gains momentum or if Tinubu’s administration successfully neutralizes its impact through governance and strategic political maneuvering.
