A young woman, identified as Ifeoluwa Adekalu, has tragically lost her life after being struck by a bullet from a police officer’s firearm in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State. The incident occurred on Thursday, January 2, at the Okela Police Station.The police officer, who remains unnamed, was reportedly celebrating a promotion when the firearm discharged accidentally. Sources suggest the officer, who had visited the station, was in a jubilant mood after receiving the news of his promotion from a colleague. Unfortunately, the stray bullet struck Adekalu, fatally injuring her.
Confusion surrounds the exact location of the incident, with conflicting reports emerging about whether the woman was shot outside a nearby salon opposite the station or while visiting her husband, who was in police custody at the time. Despite the ambiguity, it is confirmed that Adekalu was rushed to a nearby hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Adewale Adeniran, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, has confirmed the tragic event, stating that the officer involved has been disarmed and detained pending further investigation.
