In a strategic move to spotlight the untapped potential and intricate challenges of Nigeria’s mining sector, the Federal Government has announced the premiere of a television drama series titled Hidden Riches. Scheduled to debut on January 25, 2025, the initiative aims to raise awareness and drive development in the solid minerals sector.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, through a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Tomori, on Tuesday in Abuja.

A Window into Nigeria’s Mineral Wealth

The drama series, produced by Take 7 Media and helmed by renowned directors Bem Pever and Nwamaka Chikezie, will air weekly on Saturdays from 8:05 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Network Service.

Dr. Alake revealed that the show features an impressive cast, including Sydney Diala, Lara Owoeye-Wise, Iveren Antiev, and Alex Jibrin, among others.

“Hidden Riches delves into the complex dynamics of politics, power, ambition, and the human stories interwoven with Nigeria’s vast mineral wealth,” the minister said.

Driving Economic Transformation

The storyline of Hidden Riches is designed to shed light on the opportunities and challenges in harnessing the nation’s mineral resources. It follows the lives of miners, politicians, activists, and ordinary citizens as they navigate the realities of resource exploration and exploitation.

According to Dr. Alake, the series serves as a narrative tool to underscore the transformative potential of the solid minerals sector as a cornerstone for sustainable economic growth.

“Through this gripping series, viewers will understand how the solid minerals sector can be a vital alternative for Nigeria’s economic diversification and sustainable development,” he noted.

Alignment with National Goals

The series aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to diversify the country’s economy by leveraging untapped sectors such as mining. Dr. Alake emphasized that the series would not only entertain but also educate the public on the immense opportunities within the solid minerals industry.

“This initiative is more than a television series; it’s a call to action for Nigerians to engage actively in building a sustainable future through the solid minerals sector,” he added.

A Bold Step for Awareness and Engagement

The Federal Government hopes that Hidden Riches will inspire broader engagement in the mining sector by highlighting its potential to drive economic growth. By combining storytelling with strategic messaging, the show seeks to foster a better understanding of the industry’s role in national development.

The premiere of Hidden Riches on January 25 promises to be a groundbreaking moment, blending entertainment with advocacy to champion Nigeria’s quest for economic diversification.
