American Philanthropist Calls Out Ghana Police And Lynx Entertainment Over Alleged Fraud And Betrayal

Published:

Ronica McDowell, an African-American philanthropist and co-founder of the Ronica McDowell Foundation, has publicly accused the Ghana Police and Lynx Entertainment of negligence and corruption. Her allegations stem from an investment she made to build a soccer field for a government school in Ghana—an initiative she claims was sabotaged by individuals she had trusted, including a Ghanaian police officer, John Boateng.

The Background: A Philanthropic Mission Gone Wrong

Ronica, who has dedicated herself to humanitarian work in Africa, particularly Ghana, had been making biannual visits to the country since 2022. During one of her visits, she had a run-in with some men that led her to the Odokor Police Station, where she met Officer John Boateng. Their professional relationship grew, leading to a joint registration of her foundation, with plans to raise funds for a government school by constructing a soccer field.

As part of their fundraising strategy, they reached out to Lynx Entertainment—a prominent Ghanaian record label—requesting financial support. Lynx declined to provide funds but instead allowed them to select an artist to support the initiative. Ronica chose Maya Blu, and preparations for a grand fundraising event began, set for October 26, 2024.

Alleged Fraud and Betrayal Unfold

Ronica arrived in Ghana on September 4, 2024, to finalize arrangements for the event. On September 6, she was taken to Circle Market by Selorm Doh, an associate introduced to her by Officer Boateng, to unlock her phone and access MTN services. Shortly afterward, she discovered unauthorized transactions totaling $400 had been made from her Cash App, which was linked to her GoFundMe account.

With the help of NIMA and Circle Police Departments, two suspects were arrested, and the money was recovered. However, authorities claimed the funds had been taken based on false information provided by Selorm Doh.

Meanwhile, Ronica continued her preparations, promoting the event for over a year with no financial or media support from Lynx Entertainment. Shockingly, just a week before the event, Lynx Entertainment allegedly instructed her to remove Maya Blu from the lineup and replace her with artists DSLMUSIC and KASAR. This last-minute change forced Ronica to redesign promotional materials and adjust logistics.

The Night of the Event: A Devastating Outcome

On the day of the event, Maya Blu unexpectedly announced that she would be attending at 3:00 PM, though the event was scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM. Adding to the chaos, Lynx employees allegedly conspired with Officer Boateng to sabotage the program. The event was a complete failure—no attendees showed up despite all the money spent on planning.

Officer Boateng, who had been responsible for ticket sales, later informed investigating officers that not a single ticket was sold. Ronica questioned why he had taken money for a DJ if no tickets were sold. Suspicious of foul play, she sought the intervention of the Ursula Owusu Foundation, which assigned a volunteer named Enoch to investigate. Their findings pointed to an elaborate scam orchestrated by Officer Boateng in collaboration with Lynx Entertainment.

Seeking Justice: Ronica’s Fight Against Corruption

Despite presenting substantial evidence to Ghanaian authorities, including audio recordings of Boateng apologizing, Ronica claims the police have failed to take action. She has since fled Ghana for her safety, alleging that she has received threats warning her against publicizing the case.

Frustrated by the inaction of Ghanaian authorities, she took to social media platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn—to expose the corruption. In her viral posts, she accuses the Ghana Police of protecting Officer Boateng and Lynx Entertainment, rather than investigating the matter objectively.

Awaiting Response: Lynx Entertainment and Officer Boateng Stay Silent

Efforts by NewsConnect to obtain responses from both Officer Boateng and Lynx Entertainment have been met with silence. Boateng only responded with a brief “Good morning” before cutting off communication. However, Ronica maintains that she has audio recordings of him seeking forgiveness, further implicating him in the alleged scheme.

The Bigger Picture: A Call for Accountability

Ronica’s ordeal has sparked discussions on social media regarding the treatment of foreign investors, philanthropists, and tourists in Ghana. Many have expressed concerns over the lack of protection for individuals who seek to contribute positively to the country.

As pressure mounts on Ghanaian authorities to address these allegations, questions remain:

  • Will Officer Boateng face justice?
  • Will Lynx Entertainment provide an official statement?
  • Will Ghana Police take meaningful steps to restore public confidence?

For now, Ronica’s fight for justice continues, with her safety and security remaining a top priority.
