Fidelity Bank CEO, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, has underscored the need for visionary and values-driven leadership during a high-level gathering hosted by the London Business School (LBS) Alumni Community Nigeria in Lagos.
The private brunch and fireside chat, held to mark International Women’s Day 2025, brought together top executives across finance, FMCG, and investment sectors. The theme, Accelerate Action, aligned with the global Women’s Month agenda.
Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe, the first female Managing Director and CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, captivated the audience with personal stories of perseverance, courage, and strategic growth in Nigeria’s male-dominated banking “I have personally never acknowledged the gender glass ceiling in my career—or in anything in my life,” she said. “When something looks like a barrier, I see it as motivation to go even harder.”
Known for driving Fidelity Bank’s digital innovation, financial inclusion, and record-breaking performance, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe said her approach to leadership has always been rooted in discipline and self-belief.
“Don’t fear failure. It’s part of the process,” she stated. “Every misstep has taught me something that helped me get better.”
Attendees described her remarks as both practical and inspiring. Many said they saw their own professional journeys reflected in her words.
She also highlighted the challenge of maintaining balance, especially for women navigating leadership and personal life.
“Learning to balance family and career is not just important for business success, it’s important for success in life,” she noted.
As a champion of gender equity in the financial industry, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe acknowledged progress while urging for continued momentum.
“That’s progress, but we must not stop there. We want to see that number go to 14, 15, and beyond,” she said, referencing the current tally of 11 female CEOs among Nigeria’s 26 commercial banks.
Founded to cultivate leadership and innovation, the London Business School continues to boast a vibrant Nigerian alumni network. The event served as a call to action, not only to recognize exceptional women leaders but to empower more to rise.
Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe expressed optimism about the caliber of professionals she encountered during the event.
“I’m truly impressed by the quality of professionals in this network,” she said. “It’s refreshing and inspiring to see so many women leading with excellence.”
Closing the event, Akintayo Sanwo-Olu, President of the LBS Alumni Community in Nigeria, reinforced the mission of the gathering.
“As a community, we’re not just talking about change—we’re building it. At LBS, we are committed to empowering more women to lead across industries and actively changing the narrative around gender and leadership,” he said.
The event marked more than a celebration—it stood as a powerful reminder of what is possible when women lead with courage, clarity, and purpose.
