First Lady Remi Tinubu’s Alleged Intervenes In LAHA Political Crisis

Published:

In a recent development that has stirred significant political discourse, Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has been alleged to have intervened in the issue of the unconstitutional impeachment of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

Mrs. Tinubu, who is known to emphasize the importance of maintaining unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has not relesed any statement on the rumour.

Speaker Obasa was unconstitutionally impeached on January 13, 2025, over allegations of budgetary fraud and other corruption-related offenses which were yet to be proven. He is known to wield considerable political influence in key Lagos constituencies such as Agege and Alimosho, areas that played a decisive role in the 2023 elections.

Despite the ongoing corruption allegations, Obasa triumphantly made a daring return to Nigeria from the U.S. last week, receiving a rousing welcome from a great sea of supporters.

At a press conference following his return, Speaker Obasa denied all allegations against him, insisting that his impeachment was unconstitutional and politically motivated. He challenged his accusers to provide evidence of his alleged corruption.

As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this interplay between political strategy and the pursuit of justice will impact the political landscape in Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
